It is already a lock that Blake Griffin will be the Rookie of the Year, which we predicted weeks ago, but there is another honor I would like to see him win this season as well: 2011 Sprite Slam Dunk Champion. If you do not know why Griffin should be included in the contest, then climb out of that hole you have been hiding in.
There is one thing that disgusts me about Griffin – the lack of effort that he needs to exert to throw down dunks like this.
Griffin is averaging a ridiculous 20 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists per game, which is eerily similar to Tim Duncan’s stats during his rookie campaign: 21 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists per game. The only thing that Griffin is lacking from his game is blocked shots, which is disappointing given the ridiculous leaping ability that he possesses. Hopefully that aspect of his game will develop over time.
Everybody had better start taking notice of Blake Griffin and enjoy the highlight reels that this guy is putting together. We have something special on our hands.
