These two teams battled it out last night like it was 1985. It was filled with circus shots by Kobe, Ray Allen running half a mile on each position before he took a shot, Pierce acted like he was injured (again), Garnett playing intense defense, an overtime period that included a clutch blocked shot by Pau Gasol and a Mike-Brown-Kiss-To-The-Forehead on Andrew Bynum.

Here are some observations from the game:

Mike Brown is concerned with the lack of depth at the PG position. Steve Blake, playing in his first game in nearly a month, played eight more minutes than starter Derek Fisher and he played major crunch time minutes as well. It’s been painfully obvious for quite some time that Fisher is not, “starter material”. The Lakers would not have had this issue had David Stern not decided to become a dictator instead of a commissioner.

Paul Pierce deserves to be an All-Star. He came out with a monster line of 18 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 1 steal. As much as I hate the Celtics, I am glad that they have a guy in Pierce that has remained loyal to that team throughout his career. There will soon be a statue of Pierce outside TD Garden.

For all the talk about the lack of depth on the Lakers, Boston is not any deeper. The bench consists of Chris Wilcox, Marquis Daniels, Mickael Pietrus, Brandon Bass, E’Twaun Moore, Greg Stiemsma, JaJuan Johnson and Avery Bradley. Bass is the only one that can start on another team in the Association. The Celtics are not set up for a deep run in the playoffs.

This, in my opinion, needs to be the title of Kobe’s autobiography that will be written the year after he retires and will be co-written with Bill Plaschke, who still have that horrific goatee. In the book, Kobe and Plaschke and will detail the 81 defining moments in the career of the Mamba, including, but not limited to: being drafted by the New Orleans Hornets and then being immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for Vlade Divac, winning seven championships (yes – that’s a prediction), dunking on Dwight Howard, eliminating Kevin Garnett from the Playoffs year after year after year, the scandal in Colorado and the subsequent divorce, his relationship with Shaq, and the list goes on and on. While we wait another five years for this book, let’s enjoy the 81 points he dropped in a single game. If he writes like he plays, then this will be the greatest book ever written.

I’ll admit….I was skeptical about this kid. The Cavaliers using their number one overall pick on a guy that only played eleven games during his entire collegiate career?! Are you kidding me?! Don’t get me wrong, the numbers he put up during those eleven games were impressive – 17.5 PPG, 4.3 APG, 3.4 RPG and 1.5 SPG. But in the end, I think we can all agree that eleven games is a small sample size to base expectations off of and I thought that Chris Grant and the Cavaliers were nuts for drafting him.

Well I was wrong and Mr. Grant made the absolutely, positively correct pick. Through the first 23 games of this lockout-shortened season, Irving is averaging 18 PPG, 5.1 APG, 3.5 RPG, and 1 SPG. Oh and I failed to mention that he is shooting 41.3% from behind the arc. WOW! Who thought that Cleveland would hit the lottery twice in one decade?! I certainly didn’t.

In my humble opinion, there is really only one other rookie that can compete with Irving for Rookie of the Year honors – Ricky Rubio. Spanish Fly is indeed a good and flashy player, but Irving is by far the better player and competitor. Rubio has been playing professionally for years – we know what we are getting with him. Irving, on the other hand, only played eleven games in his career at Duke. As the season progresses, so will Irving – this guy will continue to get better and better and better.

In fact, he will become so good that he will cause yet another uproar in Cleveland when he bolts via free agency and becomes the second player in ten years that Dan Gilbert writes a poorly worded letter to…this time in crayon.

The Three Stooges (Wade, LeBron and Bosh) convinced Dampier to join them in Miami last season in their quest for, “not five, not six, not seven” but eight championship rings. Unfortunately Dampier only averaged 2.5 PPG and 3.5 RPG and he wasn’t even allowed to stick around for the playoffs.

Harvard graduate Jeremy Lin is finally breaking out! Lin has just become the first player since LeBron to post 20+ points and 8+ assists in his first two starts. In the game prior to his first two career starts with the Knicks, he had 25 points and 7 assists against the Nets, but didn’t start. In his first three games with significant playing time he is averaging 25.3 PPG, 8.3 APG, 4 RPG, and 1.6 SPG. Who needs Baron Davis and his 98-year-old back?

Most of us will not be tuning into your special pre-game show to see who this years All-Star reserves are because this information has already been leaked by multiple sources. In case you have not seen this information yet, here are the reserves:

WESTERN CONFERENCE RESERVES

Tim Duncan, Pau Gasol, Dirk Nowitzki, Russell Westbrook, Deron Williams, Manu Ginobili and Blake Griffin.

EASTERN CONFERENCE RESERVES

Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Chris Bosh, Al Horford and Joe Johnson.

Players and coaches alike criticize the fans for, “getting it wrong” year after year and with the Yao Ming selection, they may have a point. However, fans all across the country can say the same thing about the coaches. Year after year the coaches seem to leave out the most deserving candidates to fill up those reserve roles, so we decided to select our own, “2011 NBA All-Snub Team”.

All-Snub First Team

Guards
Raymond Felton – 17 PPG, 4 RPG, 9 APG and 2 SPG
Monta Ellis – 25 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 6 RPG and 2.3 SPG

Forwards
LaMarcus Aldridge – 21 PPG, 9 RPG, 2 APG, 1 SPG and 1 BPG
Zach Randolph – 20 PPG, 13 RPG and 1.5 APG

Pretty nice dunk, right? If you are thinking that this is just another run-of-the-mill dunk, then you need to know that Adrian Moore is only 11 years old. ELEVEN YEARS OLD! Impressed now? I thought so.

Mr. Moore is garnering a lot of attention all across the country and deservedly so. At eleven years old, Adrian is already 6’2 and is, obviously, very athletic. Yahoo! Sports also featured him on one of their blogs yesterday.

Be sure you remember his name – Adrian Moore. I have a feeling this kid will be something very special.
